POSITION DESCRIPTION: JOB TITLE: Associate Director of Communications SALARY RANGE / STATUS: $44,000 – $56,000 (based on experience) / Exempt REPORTS TO: Director of Development DATE: September 2020 POSITION SUMMARY: NBT is seeking an experienced and dynamic professional to assume the position of Associate Director of Communications. This position is a key member of the communications and development team and is integral to raising the organizations’ profile; highlighting both, the organizations’ accomplishments and impact and strategic priorities. Candidates need to demonstrate an ability in translating content for different audiences and purposes. The position also requires an exceptional writer and creative thinker; integrating and supporting NBT’s advocacy, educational, programmatic, and development efforts, while also providing insight on communications-related challenges and opportunities that align with the NBT’s mission and plan. The position reports to the Director of Development and uses communication strategies and technology to raise awareness of NBT’s impact, increase participation from community residents and partners, and attract resources and contributions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and implement NBT’s communications plan, which includes envisioning and designing NBT’s social media strategy, website management, and e-communications to raise awareness of NBT; from our strategic priorities to our impact Create stories and messaging to increase the public’s awareness of NBT, including generating an annual impact report, organizational brochures, marketing materials, fact sheets, 0ne-pagers, slide decks, and others, as needed. Develop and maintain productive relationships with members of the community and stakeholder partners. · Cultivate relationships with marketing and communications-related staff, consultants, and vendors. · Generate regular press releases, engage media to coordinate interviews and produce feature articles, and cultivate opportunities for public relations that raise NBT’s profile in the community. · Identify appropriate communications tools for reaching different audiences with executive and program staff. Direct organization-wide communications to advance NBT’s mission with different audiences for attracting additional resources and contributions · Create and execute online and print appeals for special events, annual year-end campaign and other development efforts throughout the year. · Manage assigned special event project tasks, such as: create and disseminate print materials such as invitations, programs, sponsor recognition, and coordinate event publicity. QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public affairs, or related field, from an accredited college or university, preferred. Minimum 5-years’ experience in nonprofit communications, marketing, development, or event management, with demonstrated success. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to write clearly and succinctly for different purposes and on complex topics. Robust social media skills, monitoring and using social media outside of normal work hours. Technical skills and a familiarity with website development/maintenance and other communications tools, including graphic design and the use of programs such as Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Canva and other tools. Familiarity with email marketing systems, content management systems, and the ability to learn new programs quickly. Desire to be part of an evolving organization and contribute to its growth and reputation. Strong ability to juggle competing, time-sensitive priorities. Ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, donors, staff and community. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Passion for NBT’s mission, ability to be flexible, and a good sense of humor.
