Central Digital Forensic Team – Team Leader

Division / Department – Specialist Crime Grade – Surrey Police Grade H / Sussex Police Grade 11 Status – Full Time Contract Type – Permanent Salary Grade Range – Surrey Police £31,004 – £37,042 / Sussex Police £32,796 – £36,369 Working Hours – 37.0 Hours per Week The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time. The Role The Digital Forensics Teams in Surrey & Sussex have two vacancies for a Team Leader based in Guildford and Haywards Heath This supervisory role would see you lead a team of analysts, technical assistants and administration staff responding to the demand of a Digital Forensics provision for the two organisations. To this end you will need to demonstrate strong evidence of leadership. Experience in a Digital Forensic environment is not necessary but would be desirable. You will possess a keen eye for detail and have the ability to work with minimal supervision supporting the Head of Forensic Operational Services and Digital Forensic Professional Leads to ensure that Digital Forensic services function efficiently and effectively. You will have a focus on a quality customer service in supporting police investigations. You will be responsible for the leading, management and support of staff in a variety of roles undertaking DFT work and accountable for meeting the Service Level Agreement and building and maintaining good effective collaborative relationships with our partners. Hours of duty will be as per agreed shift pattern, with additional increments for shift Working. 37 hours per week Sussex and 36 hours per week Surrey, on a rotating shift pattern, comprising day shifts, weekends and public holidays as notified Key Responsibilities Manages and leads the Digital Forensics Team (DFT) and Technical Assistants Assesses, prioritises and manages all submissions to the DFT to ensure that they are dealt with most appropriately according to threat, risk and harm assessment. Manages the professional relationship with a range of external stakeholders. Communicates, and ensure compliance with, relevant ACPO guidelines and force policy, to ensure that staff are clear about these and work within them appropriately. Assesses and oversees the maintenance and replacement of specialist equipment used within the DFT. Oversees the provision of advice, guidance and recommendations to police officers and staff regarding the use of computers and mobile phones in crime, to enable them to use the information effectively in their investigations. Responsible for the delivery and coordination of team performance and digital services to Sussex/Surrey Police. Manage and lead the DFT through organisational change. Works independently and is resilient to work in a busy environment. Responsible for DFT recruitment and selection processes to ensure resilience and skills profile within the office is maintained. To undertake training and participate in the provision of auditing for accreditation purposes across Forensic Investigations when requested. Skills & Experience ESSENTIAL – Relevant degree or equivalent by experience in DFT environment. Successful experience of managing a team of people and leading change. Successful experience of driving continuous improvement through period of change management. Excellent Interpersonal skills particularly the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders using negotiating and influencing techniques. Good knowledge and understanding of digital forensics and their use in the police service. Sound knowledge of the Computer Misuse Act and relevant ACPO guidelines governing digital forensics. Excellent knowledge and understanding of the police service in the UK, and the context in which it operates. Extensive experience of building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Proven ability to prioritise both operational and staffing issues. Excellent verbal and written negotiation and communication skills Robust decision making ability to effectively manage submissions based on threat, harm and risk. Problem solve in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Possess the awareness and ability to successfully oversee the introduction of technical processes e.g. ISO 17025 The post holder must be in possession of a current full UK Driving Licence. The post holder must be willing to undertake a driving assessment in order to be able to drive unmarked police fleet vehicles. DESIRABLE – Previous working experience in a digital forensic environment accredited to ISO 17025. Further Information All staff who work within the Digital Forensics team environment will need to have a wellbeing check BEFORE they begin the role. This forms a baseline for further checks but also ensures people are fit to undertake the role at the outset. This role within the Digital Forensics team environment will need to be vetted SC (enhanced) prior to commencing their role. Upon appointment the post holder will attend and participate in a debrief with occupational health every six months. Please see attached job profile for more information.
