Facility Maintenance Specialist – Omaha Correctional Center

Location of position: Omaha Correctional Center – Omaha, NE Examples of Work Maintain and repair a variety of machines and equipment in the facility. Perform alterations to buildings such as layout and frame walls and ceilings, install and finish drywall, install and repair ceramic and vinyl floor coverings. Perform preventative maintenance and repair on electrical appliances, plumbing, fixtures and buildings. Perform testing, trouble shooting and repair on electronic components such as video camera equipment and computers. Maintain new and completed work orders for reporting purposes. Also responsible for the supervision of inmate maintenance porters. Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, HVAC, welding, or other maintenance trade and one year of experience OR three years experience in skilled maintenance, construction or mechanical trades and experience leading/directing others in such work; experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis. PREFERRED: Education or working knowledge of HVAC systems. Experience in general construction processes, electrical or plumbing processes. Experience using electronic inventory systems. OTHER: Must have valid driver’s license. Must be able to work an on-call rotation. Must be able to lift 50 lbs with assistance. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: a medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Knowledge of woodworking and locks.
