RESPONSIBILITIES Provide support and day-to-day legal and business advices to the various business units of the company, with a focus on matters relating to operations and Quebec labour and employment matters. Working in conjunction with the Director, Labour Relations, address application, interpretation and policy development, in relation to labour and employment laws and regulation, including labour standards, human rights, employment equity and privacy. Ensure the National VP, Human Resources is kept up to date on material matters that may affect the Company. Advise and represent the company as required, on labour-related matters, grievances and employment claims. Advise the HR employees and Labour Specialists on Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du Travail matters and prepare and appear as counsel in front of the Tribunal administratif du travail. Assisting outside counsel in gathering evidence and in proceedings when matters are not handled in-house. Review, analyze and negotiate (as applicable) requests for proposal, service agreements, operational agreements and other legal documents and agreements. Negotiate agreements, if needed. Keep abreast with changes in Labour and Employment laws and regulation and their operational impact and assist with updating the company on same. Assist in the management of legal department filing, contract management and record-keeping systems. Autonomously manage litigation files, which may include representations before administrative and judicial tribunals. This list is not exhaustive and may vary over time based on the needs of the company. POSITION SPECIFICATION: Reporting to the legal counsel. Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with internal and external contacts. Ability to take initiative and work with a diverse internal clientele. Must be able to organize and prioritize to support an effective/efficient operation and accomplishment of stated goals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures in a clear and concise manner. Ability to work efficiently and independently with flexibility and adaptability. Attention to detail, strong analytical, negotiation, advocacy and drafting skills, in addition to possessing effective problem-solving skills.
